SCOPE
This position requires a strong background in Mechanical, Aeronautical or Manufacturing Engineering preferably with an emphasis on pneumatic, mechanical and electro-mechanical components/assemblies. The ideal candidate will also have experience in design and prototyping of mechanisms which may include linkages, levers, pneumatic devices, solenoid and motor operators. The candidate should have some practical experience/background in Manufacturing, Quality Assurance for mechanical devices and subsystems, preferably for use in military or commercial aviation. Knowledge of airborne weapon systems and /or weapon carriage equipment is strongly desirable.
The R&D Product Realization Engineer (PRE) role is an interdisciplinary position which facilitates easy and accurate flow of information between product design, procurement, Quality and our outside suppliers which therefore requires the employee to work across a range of organizational and technical/business skills boundaries. To be successful in this role the PRE must be a capable self-starter with good interpersonal as well as technical skills.
The duties of the PRE will evolve with the flow of the program lifecycle from Design, Components Procurement, through Prototyping and Validation/Delivery. Initially the PRE will assist and augment the R&D Design Engineering and Procurement specialists by acting in a liaison role between the Design staff and prospective suppliers of outside manufactured components and services. When the program is procuring components the PRE will continue as supplier technical liaison as well as support and or conduct and nonconforming material review activities that may become necessary. During Prototyping and Validation phases the PRE will support prototype assembly and testing, including any liaison with outside testing facilities/organizations. During any program phase the PRE may be tasked to perform classical Mechanical Engineering design tasks and may participate in conduct of tests and evaluation of design alternatives in support of product realization.
The successful PRE candidate must be flexible and able to work effectively in a fast paced environment as a member of a cross functional team and as an individual contributor. The candidate should be able to show evidence of their capability to excel in performance tasks as an individual contributor/specialist with a minimum of oversight, and to function well as a member of a cross-functional team.
SKILLS / REQUIREMENTS
• Minimum Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Aeronautical or Manufacturing engineering, and a minimum of 5 years’ experience in relevant product development or transition to production environment, preferably for military or commercial aviation.
• The candidate should have knowledge of manufacture of mechanical assemblies.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes for aerospace materials for aerospace requirements is highly desirable. Knowledge should include manufacturing techniques, their capabilities, strengths and weaknesses. Prior assembly line/support or shop experience is a plus.
• Knowledge/experience in Quality Assurance processes and disciplines, including inspection, identification, and disposition of nonconforming materials is a plus.
• Should be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience use of CAD tools. CAD experience in CATIA is preferred
• Must be able to perform basic measurements and simple inspection processes using standard measuring equipment
• Must have experience with MIL-STD documents, reading and interpretation of drawings to ASME Y14.5
• Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be fluent in written and spoken English
• Must be able to write engineering reports, typically to document analysis and test results. Evidence of accomplishment in self-documentation of work product through technical reports, test reports etc. will be considered as a plus
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office products is essential
• Proof of Education is required
• Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs
