PURPOSE:


Production planner/expeditor provides support to the MLS production planning, execution and logistics activities. This role supports the planning and expediting functions as well as production control and scheduling activities as required. Furthermore she/he will also coordinate and expedite the flow of work and materials according to the production schedule to ensure smooth execution and customer on time delivery both via external or internal expediting. This individual will directly report to director of operations, but collaborates closely on day to‐day activities with planning, production control and program management teams.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Collaborate with production and planning team to ensure consistent materials availability in support of successful execution of production plan and customer on time deliveries
  • Generate and respond to the various ERP/MRP functionalities in support of production plan
  • Perform external and internal expediting of the open purchase and production orders
  • Ensure system lead times are reviewed and adjusted as required
  • Correct system data that results in invalid load, lead time & schedule outputs
  • Alert operations, program and upper‐level management when constraints inhibit product flow and assist with problem resolution
  • Understands and foresees the downstream manufacturing steps and anticipates any future needs/issues based on accurate interpretation of the BOM and production plan
  • Expedites parts/services thru production life cycle as necessary to meet production schedule
  • Support timely release of production and purchase orders to support and balance demand and supply
  • Assist cross functional team with purchase requisitions/orders for materials/services as needed
  • Follow up the PO acknowledgements, furnished materials to vendors, shelf life and consumable items replenishments and other tasks as required
  • Ability to determine future release of orders based on assembly floor capacity and material shortages
  • Supports the various Manufacturing Supervisors and managers in smooth execution of production
  • Primary liaison between Manufacturing, operations and Program Management including Expediting
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationship with all functional stakeholders and team members
  • Assists with the physical routing of parts to the next work center when applicable
  • Support all activities related to production control as applicable and assigned

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • High School graduate diploma or a General Educational Development (GED) certificate
  • Must have minimum 2 years of previous experience as a planner, scheduler or expediter within a manufacturing company, preferably aerospace/defense industry
  • Minimum 2 years of experience with ERP/MRP systems in mfg. environment, SAP highly preferred
  • Basic knowledge of all planning functions, master scheduling, shop floor planning, etc.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings or blueprints ad Bill of Materials (BOM)
  • Good communication, organizational, time‐management, analytical and problem‐solving skills
  • Relevant training or certificate in production planning, supply chain or operations management is a plus, APICS certificate is highly preferred
  • 2 to 4 year’s degree in business, supply chain management, operations management and planning is a strong plus
  • Basic level of skills in Microsoft Office based applications including Excel, Word and PowerPoint computer skills
  • Self motivated, able to follow instructions and work independently
  • Experience in working with SAP MRP environment is a plus
  • Must be able to speak/read/write English
  • Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs
