SCOPE

Assemble, fit, fasten, and install parts to form subassemblies. Align, fit, assemble, fasten, connect, and install system components of military mechanical/electromechanical equipment.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Align and fit sub and structural assemblies by installing and connecting parts, fittings, and assemblies.
  • Install fasteners such as bolts, screws, rivets, rivnuts, helicoils, keenserts, and adhesives.
  • Use basic hand tools, i.e., screwdrivers, wrenches, pliers, hammer, ratchets & sockets, ruler, calipers.
  • Set-up, operate, and maintain a variety of hand drilling and riveting equipment (Cherry & Huck).
  • Position and align subassemblies in jigs or fixtures, using measuring instruments and following blueprint lines and index points.
  • Cut, trim, file, bend, and smooth parts, and verify sizes and fitting tolerances in order to ensure proper fit and clearance.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, illustrations, and specifications to determine layouts, sequences of operations, or identities and relationships of parts.
  • Perform quality work checks to insure the product meets quality standards.
  • Identify defects and take appropriate measures communicate and follow established non-conformance procedures.
  • Rework and/or repair assembled parts and products according to engineering specification changes.
  • Perform all work in accordance with highest quality standards and safety procedures.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area.


SKILLS / REQUIREMENTS

  • Maintain awareness and understanding of documents published in the BMS Library
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum 1-2 years mechanical assembly experience
  • Specific technical or vocational training or certification may be required; required to pass mechanical aptitude test.
  • Basic reading skills
  • Must be able to follow directions.
  • Basic computer navigation and utilization skills
  • Ability to perform work accurately, timely and thoroughly.
  • Ability to use thinking and reasoning to solve a problem, with thinking in such a way as to produce a new idea and concepts.
  • Detailed-oriented and self-motivation skills
  • Must be able to speak/read/write English.
  • Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs.
